WORKSHOPS
Family board game workshops
As part of the PLAY2DISC project, we are organising family board game workshops designed to help families discover meaningful alternatives to excessive screen use. These workshops are based on the Board Game-Based Learning methodology developed within the project and aim to promote quality family time, face-to-face interaction, communication, cooperation and shared enjoyment through modern board games.
The workshops are not simply about playing games. They are structured sessions in which families are guided by facilitators who help them choose suitable games, understand how to play them, reflect on the experience and explore how board games can be used at home as a healthy non-digital leisure habit.
During each workshop, families are welcomed and introduced to the PLAY2DISC project. After a brief presentation, participants test different board games selected according to the age of the children, the number of family members, their previous experience with board games and the type of interaction that each game promotes. Facilitators accompany the families during the activity, helping them understand the rules, supporting participation and ensuring that the experience is accessible, enjoyable and meaningful.
After each game, a short guided reflection is carried out. Families are invited to think about what happened during the game, how they communicated, how they made decisions, how they managed frustration or cooperation, and how similar moments could be recreated at home. The aim is to help families understand that board games can become more than entertainment: they can be a practical tool to strengthen family bonds and create screen-free moments of shared presence.
At the end of the workshop, families receive an information leaflet with the main ideas of the project and a QR code to download the complete Board Game-Based Learning Guide from the project website. Facilitators also answer questions and provide practical recommendations so that families can continue playing at home.
Each workshop lasts approximately three hours and follows this structure:
